Sensor Bio
vs Oura

One is signal infrastructure, built to carry raw physiological data into any system that needs it. The other is a consumer ring, built to carry Sleep, Readiness, and Activity insights onto a membership screen. Here is the difference, specification by specification.

Why Sensor Bio rises above

Built as infrastructure, not as a gadget.

Four differences decide whether a wearable can carry an institutional workload. Oura was built as a consumer ring and membership product, not as partner signal infrastructure.

01 / Raw data

The full waveform, not the summary

Scores and insights sit on top of the exposed raw signal, with the context that shows what drove the number.

Oura

Public Cloud API v2 hands over daily scores and 5-minute heart-rate samples. Continuous raw PPG, raw accelerometer, beat-to-beat IBI, and an on-device streaming SDK are not listed on that surface as of 2026-10-28.

02 / Platform

One system, every use case

Designed from the ground up as a data platform that clinical, defense, and enterprise partners build on directly.

Oura

A membership product for individuals. Partners inherit the Oura app, scores, and Cloud API roadmap.

03 / White label

Your brand on the signal

Ships as infrastructure a partner can put its own name on from the first deployment.

Oura

White-label / OEM is not listed on current ouraring.com product pages as of 2026-10-28. The brand stays theirs.

04 / Configurable

Shaped to the deployment

Data model, retention, and reporting are configured to the partner's environment: a hospital, a base, a research protocol.

Oura

Configured per individual membership and app settings, not per hospital, base, or research protocol.

A wellness tracker tells a person a score and stops there. A signal platform shows the score, the raw signal behind it, and hands over the data to prove it.

Where Oura falls short

Six problems institutional buyers run into, and how we answer each one.

How Sensor Bio answers it
The Oura problem
Data access

Raw waveform export is the default data product for every partner, not a gated upsell.

Oura

The public Oura Cloud API v2 (OAuth2) documents daily scores, sleep-session summaries, and 5-minute heart-rate samples. Continuous raw PPG waveforms, raw accelerometer series, beat-to-beat IBI, and an on-device streaming SDK are not listed on those docs as of 2026-10-28. Organizations / research export channels may differ; partners should confirm with Oura.

History

Deployments are configured to retain the history a partner actually needs.

Oura

Public API collections are date-filtered and paginated (start_date / end_date, or start_datetime / end_datetime on heart rate). A partner-configurable retention window is not listed on the public Cloud API v2 docs as of 2026-10-28.

Interpretation

Every score ships next to the raw signal it was built from, plus the context for what drove it.

Oura

Sleep, Readiness, and Activity scores are the product. The public Cloud API returns those scores (and supporting summary fields) without the raw PPG waveform they were built from.

Backend

Partners build directly on the Sensor Bio platform, built as infrastructure from the start.

Oura

Partners build on the Oura membership cloud and the public Cloud API v2. Organizations pages list an Enterprise API and CSV/JSON export; those are a separate program, not a documented raw-PPG product on the public Cloud API as of 2026-10-28.

Branding

Native white-label from the first deployment. The partner's brand carries the platform end to end.

Oura

A white-label or OEM path is not listed on current ouraring.com product pages as of 2026-10-28. Members live in the Oura app under the Oura brand. Organizations deployments still ship the Oura Ring and Oura App.

Fit for purpose

Configured per deployment from day one: a hospital, a base, or a research protocol.

Oura

Built for individuals who want Sleep–Readiness–Activity insights in a ring. Institutional capture, white-label, and waveform-level control are a retrofit.

Out of the box

Everything the Sensor Bio SDK hands you on day one.

Eight categories of physiological data, fetchable per day or across a range, with the raw datapoint series underneath every summary. No separate license. No gated tier.

01 / Vitals

Zones

Time-in-zone breakdown for the session.

Views

Summary, detail, and timeline endpoints per workout.

07 / Profile

Cloud-synced attributes

Bulk pull

Biometrics, sleep, and steps across a date range in one call.

08 / Live stream

Raw signal, in real time

Channels

During an active recording session the band streams HR, HRV, respiratory rate, beat-to-beat intervals, raw PPG, signal-to-noise ratio, and motion.

Why it matters

This is the ground-truth channel a wellness tracker never exposes. Everything above is derived from it.

Compiled from the public SensorBio SDK interface, v0.17.0. Categories one through seven are fetched from the cloud after sync, per day or across a date range, with cached and force-remote variants. Sensor Bio V2 is a general wellness device: not FDA-cleared, not FDA-approved, not intended for diagnostic use.

Oura public API

What the public Oura Cloud API actually exposes.

OAuth2 authorization-code integration for apps that already have Oura members. Daily scores, sleep-session summaries, and 5-minute heart-rate samples — not a raw-signal product. Personal access tokens were deprecated in December 2025. Sourced from the public Cloud API v2 docs at cloud.ouraring.com/v2/docs as of 2026-10-28.

daily

Daily summaries of sleep, activity, and readiness. Related routes also document daily SpO2, stress, resilience, and cardiovascular age.

heartrate

Time-series heart rate throughout the day and night at 5-minute increments (bpm, source, timestamp). Docs still describe this scope as “time series heart rate for Gen 3 users.”

sleep

Sleep-session objects with stage durations, sleep_phase_5_min, overnight heart-rate and HRV sample arrays, average breath, and readiness contributors.

workout / session

Auto-detected and user-entered workout summaries. Guided and unguided sessions in the Oura app, with optional heart-rate / HRV sample arrays on the session object.

personal / ring

Age, email, weight, height, biological sex. Ring configuration (model, size, color). Also: tags, rest-mode periods, VO₂ max, and webhook subscriptions.

Not listed

Continuous raw PPG waveforms, raw accelerometer series, beat-to-beat IBI, and an on-device streaming SDK are not listed on the public Oura Cloud API v2 docs as of 2026-10-28. An interbeat_interval route is not on that surface. Organizations pages mention CSV/JSON “raw data” export and an Enterprise API — partners should confirm what that export contains. “Not listed” is not the same as “doesn’t have.”

Sensor Bio figures are sourced from the Sensor Bio V2 technical specification sheet, current as of July 2026. Sensor Bio V2 is a general wellness device: not FDA-cleared, not FDA-approved, not intended for diagnostic use. It is not intended for diagnostic use and does not imply RPM billing eligibility. Oura Ring 4 hardware figures (support.ouraring.com and ouraring.com product/blog pages) and Cloud API v2 figures (cloud.ouraring.com/v2/docs) are current as of 2026-10-28. The current store flagship is Oura Ring 5 (launched 2026-06); the hero shows Ring 4 because no official Ring 5 full-ring transparent packshot was found. “Not listed” means the fact was not found on that public surface — not that the capability does not exist.
